Job Description:

Bellarmine University seeks a post baccalaureate intern or graduate assistant for the department of Campus Recreation. This person will be responsible for assisting the Director of Campus Recreation and the Assistant Director of Intramural and Club Sports. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Director of Campus Recreation with all tasks for which he or she is responsible and manage general operation of the facility and events in the Directors' absence
  • Assist the Director with managing recreation programs and services
  • Assist the Assistant Director of Intramural and Club Sports with the overall supervision of programs
  • Assess recreational needs of students and assist with the development of creative programs to meet needs. These programs include but are not limited to fitness and/or wellness programs, additional intramural events, etc.
  • Create and implement imaginative marketing techniques to promote recreational programs
  • Support the Director in conducting recreation and wellness workshop/educational sessions for the campus community
  • Assist in the hiring, training, evaluation, and on-the-job training of student employees
  • Assist in the general maintenance and cleaning of the facility and its equipment. Identify and communicate equipment maintenance needs to the Management Team
  • Assess patrons' feedback and needs, evaluate current programs, and respond to inquiries and complaints of center participants
  • Maintain a working knowledge of SuRF Center policies and procedures
  • Have an understanding and working knowledge of all cardiovascular and weight training equipment
  • Oversee opening and closing procedures, ensuring the building is secure at closing
  • Supervise student employees and report student employee misconduct, tardiness, or other performance related concerns in the absence of the Director of Campus Recreation
  • Register patrons for recreation and wellness programs
  • Facilitate conflict resolution with customer problems and complaints
  • Handle/assist with all incidents, accidents, injuries and emergencies
  • Provide weekend and evening coverage to the Sport, Recreation, and Fitness Facility (SuRF Center)
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Health and Physical Education, Exercise Science, Athletic Training, or related field is preferable. Applicants who are currently pursuing a degree will also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working within a Campus Recreation department
  • Willing to work evenings and weekends
  • A strong background in recreation programming and facility management
  • Red Cross or American Heart Association certified in First Aid, CPR, and Automatic Emergency Defibrillator (AED)
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral skills
  • Able to work independently and in teams
  • Ability to handle details accurately
  • Strong customer service orientation


Additional Information:

The compensation for this position is $12/hour at 20 hours/week and may be eligible for some tuition benefit. This position terminates May 1, 2020.
