Job/Internship Description
Amazon's CloudTune Forecasting & Insights team in Seattle is looking for an Economist Intern to join the team responsible for generating forecasts that are used to scale 100,000s of services across all of Amazon. We generate business and infrastructure forecasts using statistical and economic models, integrated with automated deployment mechanisms to scale Amazon services to be cost-effective, efficient and highly available.

Our team uses economic models to forecast business metrics to automatically scale Amazon's infrastructure and services. Efficiently allocating Amazon's resources to match the behavior of our customers and services is a complex problem involving statistical analysis, automation of expert knowledge, machine learning, and integration with many other Amazon systems. We get to work on extremely interesting problems, in an environment where you get to learn from other experienced economists, research scientists and software engineers to apply econometrics on a massive scale.

We are looking for detail-oriented, organized, and responsible individuals with expertise in causal analysis to enable our team start answering questions beyond forecasts. For example, measuring impact of retail event features and deals schedule and creating a feedback loop to business stakeholder controlling these decision. Some knowledge of econometrics, as well as basic familiarity with Stata, R or MATLAB is necessary, and experience with Python, SQL and UNIX would be a plus.

These are full-time positions at 40 hours per week, with compensation being awarded on an hourly basis. You will learn how to build data sets and perform applied econometric analysis at Internet speed collaborating with economists, data scientists and MBA's. These skills will translate well into writing applied chapters in your dissertation and provide you with work experience that may help you with placement.

Roughly 50% of research assistants from previous cohorts have converted to full time data science or economics employment at Amazon.
