Work in collaboration with the WVU Heart and Vascular Institute and is responsible for carrying out specialized strength and conditioning programs established for cardiac rehabilitation patients. Provide education and teach patients the proper exercise techniques.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology OR Exercise Science.

2. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1.Certified Exercise Specialist by The American College of Sports Medicine or its equivalent.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Must provide care including the implementation and evaluation of exercise programs for cardiac patients in all phases of cardiac rehabilitation in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Exercise Physiologist, Cardiac Rehab RN and/or Physical Therapist.

2. Works collaboratively with all members of the HVI team to ensure services are consistent with planned surgical interventions and pre and post op care along with all Cardiac Rehab Patients.

3. Assist with insurance authorization, scheduling, and billing to carry out patients' established plans of care.

4. Completes all required feedback and communication to patient and healthcare team including EMR documentation and reports concerning education, exercise progression, exercise treatment, and monitored physiological and vital responses of the patient.

5. Immediately communicates to appropriate healthcare team members any adverse patient responses to any education, exercise, medications, or treatment.

6. Must be able to set up, monitor, and read EKG/ECG systems used during cardiac rehabilitation and exercise.

7. Must be able to monitor all appropriate patient vital signs during patient exercise and cardiac rehabilitation activities.

8. Maintains exercise equipment with regards to cleaning and inspection.

9. Ensures that patients and their support systems understand education provided as to the patient's medical condition, plan of care, and established exercise goals.

10. Identifies own learning needs and makes plans to meet these needs.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

1. Heavy/Hard Work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40+lbs.

2. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and health recommends minimizing the need for employees to manually lift patients, and limit safe patient handling to 35 pounds. All transfers, lifts and re-positioning will be completed utilizing the lift equipment and/or other patient handling aids as indicated by the patient's profile and appropriate algorithms.

3. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
