Responsible for providing availability of necessary instrumentation and supplies that are essential to maintain and support the case cart system currently in use, in conjunction with Central Service and Surgery Department team members. Maintains accurate records of all quality control monitors for sterilization efficiency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1.High School diploma or equivalent

2. Successful completion of the surgery orientation program and three (3) months on-the-job training OROne (1) year of OR experience

1. Experience in operating room with knowledge of instruments, equipment, linen and other supplies needed for surgery

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Runs biological and chemical tests at beginning of the day shift. Records results in appropriate logs. Ensures proper operation of sterilizers (autoclaves/sterad) prior to use on a daily basis.

2. Reports any malfunction of sterilizers to Biomed/Department Manager and takes unit out of service.

3. Pulls all supplies to complete the case cart system for surgical cases for next day's scheduled cases in conjunction with the Inventory Control Coordinator. Is aware and ever vigilant for expiration dates of sterile supplies.

4. Is aware of case cart shortages and works with Central Service personnel and Inventory Control Coordinator to ensure trays and carts are complete.

5. Coordinates all activities as they relate to computerized preference list and pic tickets and routes to appropriate areas. Remains alert to changes in the day's activities (added cases, cancelled cases, room changes, etc.), and takes action appropriately.

6. Demonstrates competence of sterilization principles to correctly wrap or package items for sterilization.

7. Appropriately handles and cares for instruments, tray preparation and special procedure items. Assures trays for special cases are on case cart. Remains immediately available to assist special request/needs from the OR staff before, during or after a case.

8. Functions effectively in an emergency or under stressful situations. Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and organized.

9. Ensures all documentation entries are pertinent, legible, complete and concise. Completes requirements and department in-service materials in a timely fashion.

10. Maintains preference lists (physician specifics) accurately for each procedure with emphasis on maximum utilization of supplies, time, and equipment for cost consciousness.

11. Works with Inventory Coordinator / Assistant Director / Specialty Nurses to update changes to preference lists.

12. Communicates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, co-workers and physicians, showing professional respect when problem solving. Always notifies the charge nurse when leaving the department during patient activity times.

13. Makes maximum use of all time (free time/down time) to volunteer to help in other areas, like central service or inventory.

14. Effectively participates in the orientation process. Ensures new, float, or temporary personnel are made to feel welcome and oriented to unit routine.

15. Adheres to HIPPA policies, CMS, Joint Commission standards and all hospital policies.

16. Attends to personal affairs outside of scheduled work time. Restricts use of cell phone unless for hospital business/communication. Prioritizes the volume and nature of workload. Determines specific needs in area to maintain a steady workflow.

17. Demonstrates emerging knowledge base in surgical and diagnostic techniques as they develop and adapts to own needs.
