WHAT WE OFFER

Covestro is seeking to hire an Environmental and Regulatory Affairs Specialist for our New Martinsville, WV production site. This position will be responsible for developing, implementing and administering environmental compliance programs for the New Martinsville Site to meet Company Guidelines, Federal and State Regulations and CoRe Directives. Also responsible for HSE Management Systems implementation and auditing (including Responsible Care and CoRe Directives) This position is also the point-of-contact(POC) for internal and external legal counsel, with regards to HSEQ litigation matters.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategic plans for compliance with environmental regulations and continual improvement in environmental performance for the NM site
  • Prepare and negotiate permit applications for new projects and modifications to existing processes for the NM site
  • Prepare and submit all required environmental reports, data, documentation, and compliance certifications for the NM site
  • Communicate regulatory requirements to all units at NM site
  • Audits site compliance with permits and environmental regulations
  • Participates in community outreach programs such as the Community Advisory Panel (CAP) and for preparing risk communications on environmental issues
  • As needed, represents the Company and the New Martinsville site on corporate committees, industry associations, and technical task groups for environmental issues
  • Provides peer technical input to other Company locations on environmental issues
  • Maintains the site's management system (including the HESQ Policy Managing the overall implementation process for CoRe Directives
  • Site remediation planning and implementation
  • Managing the New Martinsville IIMS database
  • The preparation of monthly and annual EPCRA reports and associated hazard determinations
  • Serving as the point of contact (POC) for internal and external legal counsel, with regards to HSEQ litigation and worker's compensation
  • The site's environmental performance, e.g. spills, releases, etc., and establishing proactive programs to improve this performance
  • Communication with environmental regulatory agencies for the New Martinsville site

WHAT YOU OFFER

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS degree and a minimum of 4 years of experience in the environmental field, or MS with 2 years of experience in the environmental field
  • Detailed knowledge of state, federal, and internal environmental regulations and procedures

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering or an Environmental science field

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively lead a team of individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication skills for interacting with internal and external groups from Senior Management/Operating Technicians, regulators, internal/external legal counsel and citizens
  • Working knowledge of statistics, computer operations, process control, root cause analysis and basic engineering principles
  • Ability to manage necessary resources to meet site environmental goals
  • Ability to communicate and explain environmental risk issues
