Research Assistant Professor
Department of Hematology and Oncology
West Virginia University Health Sciences Center

The West Virginia University School of Medicine and the Cancer Institute are seeking applications for a Research Assistant Professor, non-tenured, in Hematology and Oncology. We seek a colleague who will build a program of independent research in a multidisciplinary collaborative environment located in a major academic cancer center. The Department of Hematology and Oncology has outstanding clinical, translational and basic science research programs with several investigator initiated clinical trials and established human tissue collection protocols. Translational research is also supported by close ties with the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute, and Vaccine Development center as well as P20 Center of Biomedical Research Excellence grants in Tumor Microenvironment. Department faculty hold extramural research support from NIH, DoD, regional and national foundations, and industry.

Responsibilities will include contributing to ongoing research and capacity-building projects, developing or continuing a fundable research program, and participating in service activities within the Center, the School, the institution, and professional-based communities as appropriate. The researcher is expected to expand the research profile of the department by increasing research productivity through submission of publications, presentations and grants.

The faculty member's academic appointment will reside in the newly established Department of Hematology Oncology. This position will report to Ashkan Emadi, MD, PhD, Chair of the Department of Hematology Oncology.

Qualifications

Applicant must have:
* A relevant doctoral degree (e.g., PhD or MD)
* Five (5) years of post-graduate research experience
* Advanced expertise in research design and methodology
* Record of peer-reviewed publications
* Demonstrated abilities to lead and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team
* Excellent oral and written communication skills
* Evidence of mentoring experience
