POSITION SUMMARY

To provide a safe riding environment for our guests. We also provide emergency care for those riders, and/or other guests at our facility who are injured, lost or in need of assistance. We will monitor and report all conditions of trails, ski lifts, and shuttle coverage of the area.

Essential Duties:

This position is responsible for the following:

Assures a safe biking experience for our guests
  • Providing emergency care, assistance, and information to our guests.

Maintains quality of care to those with serious and/or life-threatening injuries.
  • Maintaining a current OEC certification.
  • Using training received from ski patrol and EMS courses to provide basic life-saving first aid ABC's, CPR, control of bleeding, etc) notifying proper medical personnel for advanced life support and transport to proper receiving facilities.

Enforces rider safety
  • Requiring the proper personal protection
  • Through direct communication with guests and employees.


Riding trails to provide biking conditions
  • Marking hazards with signs, ropes and bamboo poles and completing a weekly check of trails and features in the bike park areas of the western trail system and the basin trail system.
  • Reporting any trail or feature work needed to the Bike Park trails crew.

Provide efficient and complete closing of all trails
  • Completing a daily sweep riding trails at the end of the
  • Day, visually scanning the bike trails for lost or injured guests. In the
  • Event of inclement weather, guests will be transported via company vehicle.

Ensuring timely first-aid and care for injured.
  • Maintaining patrol dispatch when assigned
  • Involving receiving calls (via telephone and/or radio) and dispatching patrollers, equipment and
  • Adequate transportation to accident sites, and recording all incidents,
  • Both on paper, and in our computer database

Arranges transportation (via ambulance or van) for injured guests
  • Contacting families, friends, and/or medical facilities and assisting
  • Including possibly driving the party to vehicles, condos or houses

Maintains a professional standard of riding.
  • Improving skills by taking lessons from the bike park attendants
  • Riding at one's level of expertise. Riders should also be riding at or above the intermediate trail designations.

Provide a guest service function at lift terminals
  • Assists lift attendants by checking tickets and regulating riders to use the lift to its maximum efficiency.
  • Assisting with guest service problems

Performs emergency evacuation of ski lifts
  • Using NSPS lift evacuation techniques and following the resorts lift evac plan

Contributes To Team Effort
  • Accomplishing related results as needed

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School diploma or equivalent

Specific Experience: Ability to ride bicycles adequately to perform duties in a proficient manner

Length of Experience: Will ride with manager or supervisor to evaluate skills

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

Patroller must also have (Outdoor Emergency Care certification) and hold a current CPR card. The employee must complete ATV training.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Any Alterra employee or volunteer who operates a company vehicle including cars, trucks, snowcats, snowmobiles, or heavy equipment is required to comply with the Alterra's Driver's Standards Policy. This policy also applies to employees or volunteers driving their personal vehicles for company business more than four times per month, averaging 30+ miles per trip. All drivers should receive a full copy of the Alterra's Driver's Standards Policy; if you have not - please contact your Risk/Safety or HR/EE Department.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

This position may be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays.

Mountain Environment:
  • The primary physical environment in which this position works is out of doors with a high exposure level to cold, snow, wind, rain, bugs, sun, high altitude, extreme heights, lightning, etc...
  • The degree of strenuous activity within the job is considered to be high. Often lifting a weight of 50 pounds throughout the day is common.
  • Additional strenuous physical activity may include walking or hiking upon uneven, challenging terrain with heavy tools or equipment.
  • Exposure to: Chemicals required for cleaning, de-greasing, and painting Ultra Violet radiation from the sun enhanced through lack of atmospheric filtration at work altitude. Fumes produced in activities ranging from cleaning to painting to fabrication of metal products. Noise generated by snowmobiles, lift equipment, and tools may require hearing protection to be worn.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
