Full Time - Year Round Maintain the aesthetic, effectiveness, functionality, and safety of all resort common areas and resources by performing maintenance and or snow removal and ice control on all common area grounds, landscape features and plants, hardscape features, resort signage, walkways, steps, plazas, parking lots and roads. ESSENTIAL DUTIES

This position is responsible for the following job results.
  • Maintaining resort common area and grounds, walkway, steps, plazas, parking areas and roadways, by receiving instructions from Manager or Supervisor to perform tasks regarding landscaping, hardscaping, maintenance, snow removal and ice control, trash and debris control and removal for all resort common areas and grounds.
  • Inspect all common areas by performing daily walk thru of plaza areas, picking up trash and checking for safety issues.
  • Maintain historical records by ensuring that all records on work performed is recorded in compliance with company requirements; Completing in detail and turning in all work orders so that records and billing can be achieved and maintained.
  • Ensure Safe Operation of Equipment by following all standard operational and safety practices referred to in equipment training and technical manuals to ensure proper procedures are followed; notifying manager/supervisor of any condition or occurrence that may adversely affect the safety of operation or the quality of the experience of our guests.
  • Maintain inventory and supplies by checking inventory levels and informing Manager/Supervisor
  • Maintain technical and professional knowledge by attending training, workshops, and communicating with peers; reading mountain operations manuals, employee handbooks, and manufacturers manuals
  • Maintain safe and clean work areas by maintaining work and shop areas are clean and neat for co-workers, guests and inspectors, following all company safety policies and procedures; following all manufacturers safety policies and procedures on equipment used; attending company and departmental safety training meetings; using proper PPE (personal protective equipment).
  • Provide friendly service to guests, other employees and entrepreneurs by conducting yourself in a friendly and courteous manner at all times and providing efficient, timely service to guests and other staff; assisting and instructing guests whenever asked; answering questions or concerns of guests.
  • Prepares grounds by mowing, weed-eating, hand raking, weeding, edging, pruning trees and plants, picking up branches and trash, mulching, maintaining landscape beds and plants, applying chemicals, such as fertilizers, weed and animal control, maintain landscape walls and handrails
  • Maintains equipment used in daily preparations by checking oil, gas, fluid levels; properly cleaning equipment, putting back equipment back in its proper place and reporting any problems with equipment
  • Assists in project work and participates in construction by preparing soil beds, sodding, seeding, and digging trenches.
  • Maintains Signage by painting, building and setting signs in place.
  • Provide snow removal and ice control by removing snow with the use of hand tools such as shovels, ice chippers, scrapers, snow blowers, etc. and doing ice control to reduce slippage and falls by spreading ice melt/salt, sand, gravel, or other chemicals and abrasives.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed; performing other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS

DIRECT EXPERIENCE
  • Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one year of responsible experience in grounds keeping.
  • Specific Experience, Certifications, Licenses Required: Some experience working with small motorized equipment i.e., snow blower, mowers, weed-eaters, chain saws, hand tools, power tools, etc. Should have knowledge of grounds keeping equipment and landscaping. Current and valid driver's license, Snowshoe ATV certification training required before operating ATV.
  • Length of Experience: 6 months


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Any employee or volunteer who operates a company vehicle including cars, trucks, snowcats, snowmobiles, or heavy equipment is required to comply with the Driver's Standards Policy. This policy also applies to employees or volunteers driving their personal vehicles for company business more than four times per month, averaging 30+ miles per trip. All drivers should receive a full copy of the Alterra Driver's Standards Policy; if you have not - please contact your Risk/Safety or HR/EE Department.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Mountain Environment:
  • The primary physical environment in which this position works is out of doors with a high exposure level to cold, snow, wind, rain, bugs, sun, high altitude, extreme heights, lightning, etc...
  • The degree of strenuous activity within the job is considered to be high. Often lifting a weight of 50 pounds throughout the day is common.
  • Additional strenuous physical activity may include walking or hiking upon uneven, challenging terrain with heavy tools or equipment.
  • Exposure to: Chemicals required for cleaning, de-greasing, and painting Ultra Violet radiation from the sun enhanced through lack of atmospheric filtration at work altitude. Fumes produced in activities ranging from cleaning to painting to fabrication of metal products. Noise generated by snowmobiles, lift equipment, and tools may require hearing protection to be worn.
  • Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and other employees.
  • Vision occurs continuously with the most common visual functions being those of near vision and depth perception.
