The Center for Teaching and Learning at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for an Administrative Director.

About the Opportunity

The Administrative Director will assume a pivotal position during a time of transition for the campus and will be responsible for leadership, vision, and management of the Center for Teaching and Learning. The responsibilities include developing activities, programs, and Center culture that facilitate, promote, and sustain collaboration with all campus partners and promote an effective teaching and learning community. The Administrative Director is also expected to maintain a deep understanding of educational theory and research to inform educational development efforts and promote evidence-based practices and will have a lasting impact on the institution through educational development, partnering with key units on campus and ensuring alignment with the University's strategic vision.

What You'll Do

  • Oversees administrative operations including budget, physical spaces, support staff, and assessment.
  • Supervises five staff members, including one program assistant and four Scholarship of Teaching and Learning leaders.
  • Determines priorities, strategic direction and schedules for signature programs and services for instructors (New2Teaching Orientations for early career instructors and
  • Teaching Workshops for mid and later career instructors, Teaching Mentoring Initiatives, Peer Review of Teaching Initiatives, Educational Development programs, etc.) that includes best practices and emergent trends, relevant and engaging, and aligned with the institution.
  • Helps disseminate best pedagogical practice.
  • Fosters faculty participation in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
  • Creates strategies to meet all instructor needs.
  • Contributes to strategic teaching initiatives.
  • Collaborates with campus entities to align Center with institutional priorities including teaching excellence, inclusive pedagogy, instructor success, health, and well-being, student success, health and wellness, and innovative course practices.
  • Helps create a pipeline of faculty leaders.
Qualifications
  • PhD or equivalent terminal degree in an academic discipline at WVU (i.e., qualifications needed to serve as an instructor at WVU).
  • A minimum of three (3) years of progressive responsibilities leading and managing activities core to teaching and learning.
  • Sustained record of accomplished teaching in a university setting.
  • Evidence of implementing and evaluating initiatives that promote student-centered, inclusive, and engaged learning and support well-being for instructors and students.
  • Experience successfully training a range of campus constituents (i.e., faculty, post docs, graduate assistants, and staff) in online, in-person, and blended formats in an educational environment.
  • Strong understanding of pedagogical theories, principles and practices of instructional design, program assessment and evaluation, and educational technologies.
  • Strong focus on and contribution to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) as well as participation in national organizations centered on university teaching.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and direct assessment projects at different scales.
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data, as well as present them in multiple forms to a range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly and cogently for different audiences.
