This is a Medical Laboratory Technician training program, in which the incumbent learns and performs the clinical rotations under the direction and supervision of a training instructor within an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program. Incumbent is enrolled in a program and is expected to complete training curriculum, specified clinical rotations and specific hours of on-the-job training designated by the program/employer. The Trainee performs a variety of indirect or direct laboratory tech duties as assigned. Upon completion of the program, the trainee must obtain WV Clinical Laboratory Trainee License as a Medical Laboratory Trainee prior to transfer date from trainee to licensed trainee. A two-year commitment will commence upon the first day of active employment as a licensed Medical Laboratory Trainee and no later than 30 days from degree conferment. The technologist has 3 years to obtain certification per WV regulations but 1 year is required for this program. If licensure is not obtained, it will be in hospital's discretion whether Scholar will continue employment, and in what role. If Scholar desires to opt out of the laboratory services environment but utilize skills in an associated hospital department, management will consider but is not obligated to grant such a request. Hospital will cover approved costs of the program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Must enroll and be accepted into an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program

2. High school diploma or equivalent

3. Obtain WV Clinical Laboratory Trainee License during clinical externship.

EXPERIENCE:

1. Hospital patient care work experience

1. Complete all coursework associated with the MLT program achieving a GPA of 2.0 above within the timeframe of the accredited program. Maintains eligibility for program graduation.

2. Conduct all duties in conjunction with the program curriculum and safety standards.

3. Meets Standards of Behavior at accredited training program site and within hospital during mentored clinicals.

4. Commits to the schedule outlined during orientation and participates in hospital educational touch base meetings with designated clinical preceptors. Maintains required logbooks to document paid training and clinical hours.

5. Completes face to face clinical instruction and clinical rotations as necessary and agreed upon.

1. Capable of prolonged periods of standing and walking.

2. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and push/pull heavy loaded carts.

3. Possess visual, hearing, and oral acuity alone with manual dexterity and technical ability.

4. Must be able to work while wearing personal protective gear. Able to wear lead aprons for extended periods of time.
