West Virginia University College of Creative Arts is currently accepting applications for a Temporary Professional Technologist.

About the Opportunity

As a Temporary Professional Technologist, you will enable the activities of the College of Creative Arts and its guests by providing high-level support for the computing, networking, data management and system management needs of our academic, research and artistic functions. This position requires fluency in Mac OS, Windows, iOS, and Android platforms with the ability to research new, emerging and specialized technologies..

You will be part of the College of Creative Arts. This position reports to the Assistant Dean.

Assignment Length: Approximately 8.5 months

What you'll do:

  • Provides network and telecommunications support to include configuring network switch interfaces for data and voice networks, toning and testing network jacks, tracing connections through patch panels to switch stacks, resolving issues with network interface cards associated with endpoint devices;
  • Installs, configures and troubleshoots anti-virus clients, malware prevention tools and scans, remediates malware and virus infections, and proactively works with end users to promote safe online practices;
  • Works with Information Security and end users to remediate vulnerabilities found by network scans, including prevention and remediation tasks involving confidential information found on client computers;
  • Consults with faculty and staff to recommend, implement and maintain specialized local area networks for lighting, audio, video and automation control and signal transmission;
  • Specialized Peripheral Support
  • Provides installation, maintenance, operational and troubleshooting support for specialized peripherals common in the creation and documentation of all forms of art, including printers, plotters, scanners, cameras, projectors, 3D printers, CNC machines, media interfaces, etc.;
  • Provides technical support and calibration assistance for advanced graphics displays;
  • Archival Data Management
  • IT Solutions Architect
  • Develops potential IT solutions for existing or future CCAM needs or problems;
  • Identifies opportunities for process and efficiency improvements across departments within the College;
  • Works with units to develop IT strategies and to improve current IT implementations within the College;
  • Communicates with faculty and staff to develop and deploy appropriate solutions;
  • Computer Lab Coordination
  • Serves as a resource for faculty and staff and a liaison to University ITS for the planning, maintenance and operation of all CCAM computer labs;
  • Assists faculty with regular upkeep of computer lab resources;
  • Consults on process and setup decisions to ensure efficient use of School and College resources;
  • Media Innovation Center Support
  • Maintains the Center's computer equipment including classroom computers, streaming carts, wall monitors and student checkout laptops;
  • Networking and telecommunications
  • Advises faculty and staff on best practices regarding the long-term storage and retention of digital audio, video, image and other specialized files;
  • Looks for opportunities to consolidate systems and protocols across multiple departments for efficient and stable long-term and accessible storage options;
  • Event Ticketing System/CRM Support
  • Works with CCAM Box Office Manager and Assistant Dean of Production to maintain all Box Office technology and resources;
  • Regularly ensures proper Ticketing System integration with College and School websites and assists with ensuring a functional ticket purchase path.
  • CCAM IT Advocate
  • Serves as liaison to University ITS for CCAM faculty, staff and students for mission critical, overly complex, or recurring IT issues;
  • Serve as the CCAM representative on the University's Academic IT Leadership committee.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to Information Technology and/or equivalent combination of education or experience
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience involving:
    • Technical experience in an IT related field;
    • Verifiable experience providing technical support for both Windows and Mac computer hardware (laptop, desktop and mobile devices) and the applicable software applications required by faculty, staff and students.
    • Experience managing, troubleshooting and supporting a wide variety of technologies and related equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain an exemplary level of customer service with all faculty, staff, students, and visitors of the College;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Flexibility and ability to work in fast-paced, high-intensity environment;
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed;
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm under pressure and handle high-stress situations with colleagues, guests, and students;
  • Must be able to provide advanced technical support for various hardware platforms, operating systems, and software packages, including Microsoft Office, Office 365, Adobe Creative Suite, and other industry-specific applications;
  • Proficiency with and ability to learn specialized software platforms and their installation and upkeep;
  • Must have ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously and be able to make decisions independently;
  • Firm grasp of functions of a creative arts facility, particularly in an educational setting;
  • Ability to research, source and implement new technology solutions for daily operational functions;
  • Ability to lift, bend, stoop, walk, reach, and stand for extended periods of time;
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle with either an automatic or standard transmission;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage both long-term and short-term projects;
  • Ability to make financial projections for projects and equipment.
