Job Description

The Aerospace Corporation is the trusted partner to the nation's space programs, solving the hardest problems and providing unmatched technical expertise. As the operator of a federally funded research and development center (FFRDC), we are broadly engaged across all aspects of space- delivering innovative solutions that span satellite, launch, ground, and cyber systems for defense, civil and commercial customers. When you join our team, you'll be part of a special collection of problem solvers, thought leaders, and innovators. Join us and take your place in space.

At Aerospace, we are committed to providing an inclusive and diverse workplace for all employees to share in our common passion and aspiration - to carry out a mission much bigger than ourselves.

Job Summary

The Systems Engineering Division (SED) provides unmatched experience in systems engineering to the U.S. government and to numerous public and private agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, consortia, and commercial companies involved in the advanced application of space technology. From systems architecture development to system analysis and optimization, astrodynamics, orbital debris, navigation, failure analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule assessment, and economic market analysis, SED exploits an incredibly broad array of engineering and business disciplines against a diverse and dynamic portfolio of programs and national challenges.

One of the key capabilities at The Aerospace Corporation is the Concept Design Center (CDC), which is an internationally recognized center of excellence in collaborative, concurrent design of space and ground systems that draws on technical experts from across the corporation. The CDC uses a concurrent engineering method and analytical models to develop concept designs of space systems that estimate performance and life cycle costs (see our CDC video at ).

What You'll Be Doing

  • Create and maintain capabilities that make CDC compatible with Aerospace's digital engineering environment, specifically:
    • CDC database used for real-time data exchange between different tools during collaborative design studies
    • Collaborative simulation capability... connecting simulation tools with a cloud environment
    • CDC web services interface to enable Aerospace users to search, mine, and access concept study data
    • Web interface to "onboard" customers seeking CDC services
    • Mechanism for "Digital Deliverables" such as dashboards that dynamically organize study data and display results (vs. traditional document reports)
    • Mechanism to pull data into a corporate data warehouse so others can use data for their analyses
    • Repositories for space system descriptive models, including SysML models of spacecraft and architectures
  • Help develop CDC teams, facilities, and processes to improve support to Aerospace customers
  • Maintain multi-site and virtual CDC capabilities. CDC lab facilities are in multiple locations, and unclassified studies may also be performed by teams from home.
  • Identify opportunities to implement Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and practices in the studies

*This position is available as Level or Level 2*

What You Need to be Successful

    Minimum Requirements for level 1:

    • BS in a relevant engineering discipline (Data Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science).
    • Experience creating and maintaining databases, web services interface, and APIs
    • Familiarity with data standards, data exchange standards, digital engineering, cloud-native software development, cloud-native data engineering, data warehouses, and distributed systems
    • At least 5 years experience in data engineering and/or data management.
    • Must be willing to train staff to promote CDC awareness and implementation
    • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the US government. U.S citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

Additional Minimum Requirements for level 2:

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

    • Masters degree or higher, and/or combination of desired major and minor (e.g. Aerospace Engineering major and Data Engineering minor)
    • Computer programming, modeling and simulation skills.
    • Software, Languages, and Databases: Kafka, Java, C++, Python, Syndeia, OpenMBEE, Tableau, SysML, MagicDraw (Cameo, Collaborator), Sparx EA, Matlab, InfluxDB
    • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), Digital Engineering, machine learning, software tool interconnectivity, OSLC, AWS
