We are looking for a Solvent Recovery Chemical Operator to support our Specialty Chemical Operations in Rochester, NY.
As a Solvent Recovery Operator, you will manage and maintain a product flow of various chemicals through the chemical processing equipment and maximize output, product quality and minimize waste. You are responsible for operating and controlling the process equipment. The equipment includes ABB distributed process control computers and PCs, distillation columns, extractors, steamers, cooling towers, decanters, tanks, pumps, lab equipment, transfer stations, emissions reduction systems and pipelines. The equipment and control systems are complex, high volume, and require a high level of operator interface and process understanding. The processes operate 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. The operations include high level safety priority, potential for solvent exposure and environmental hazards.
Specialized Skills Job Expectations:
Each Process Operator is required to go through training, with a primary focus on HSE, process equipment function/setup, operating procedures, and process operating techniques.
Strict adherence to division operating procedures regarding HSE,
Individual needs to have good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
Good communication skills are needed, both written and verbal, with the ability to express oneself clearly, read job related material and write effectively. The ability to comprehend a variety of work requests.
Need to be able to function on a computer utilizing various databases and programs.
The ability to apply basic math concepts, addition, subtraction, multiplications, divide and calculate percentages.
Individual must be able to maintain a clean work area, practice good 5s and operate in a safe manner at all times.
Willing to work overtime or adjust work schedule for shutdowns and business needs.
Need to have good analytical and trouble shooting skills. Knowing when to STOP, CALL and Wait for help when issues or problems are confronted.
Able to work outside year-round. Physical plant is an outdoor manufacturing facility. Frequent stairs, work on platforms, grating, high levels, night and day, work with railcars, tank trailers, outdoors in all weather conditions.
Self-motivated, able to set priorities, and ability to multitask. Sense of urgency for constantly changing priorities as demonstrated by process upsets or logistical challenges.
Ability to work 12 hour rotating shifts.
Manufacturing experience, some technical background, mechanical, electrical, or chemical.
Good interpretation of procedures and adherence to HSE and process procedures.
The desire to continually improve oneself.
Excellent teamwork and communications skills.
Energy and initiative to focus on results.
